Installation: Home Backup Internet
Outdoor 5G Gateway & Cable Load-Balancing Failover
Eliminated household dropouts by instantly routing network traffic away from the failing cable line to the high-speed 5G network when performance degrades.
The Challenge
The home’s existing local cable internet connection suffered from chronic packet loss and frequent daily dropouts, severely disrupting remote work, streaming, and large corporate file transfers.
The Installed Solution
Installed and optimized a high-capacity outdoor LTE/5G gateway configuration. Integrated this wireless pipeline into an intelligent load balancer configured with instant, automatic failover to shield the home network from cable link instability.
The Outcome
Eliminated household dropouts by instantly routing network traffic away from the failing cable line to the high-speed 5G network when performance degrades.
Equipment Details
Outdoor LTE/5G configuration using a high-gain 5G-RGM-O wideband antenna with an integrated Quectel RM520N-GL multi-mode modem. Tethered to an enterprise-grade MikroTik multi-WAN router configured for active load balancing and dynamic link monitoring.
Performance Notes
The dual-WAN integration completely neutralized the household's connectivity issues. The unstable cable link (previously plagued by 15% packet loss and daily speeds plummeting to 2 Mbps) is now augmented by a blazing-fast 5G wireless arrival of 340 Mbps download and 85 Mbps upload. Dynamic load balancing routes high-priority work traffic over the ultra-stable 5G link (steady 28ms latency), while non-critical household data uses the standard link, instantly failing over completely within 500 milliseconds if the cable drops entirely.
